VFC Open House

Join us on September 18th, 2021 for the VFC Open House!

This year marks the Victoria Flying Club's 75th anniversary in flying operations and flight training. From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 18th, we invite you to come and meet flight instructors, staff, and club members who share a love of aviation, tour cool civilian and military aircraft, and even go flying! Qualified flight instructors will be on-site to take future aviators on Discovery flights. Indoor tours will introduce you to the club’s Beechcraft 95 rebuild project and outdoor displays will have potential aircraft from CH-148 Cyclone helicopters to CF-18 Hornets, CC-115 Buffalo search and rescue craft, and more, as well as a crash-fire-response fire truck from the Victoria International Airport.

Interested in becoming a pilot or pursuing a career in aviation? Our flight instructors will be on hand to answer questions. For teens interested in flight school, School District 61 will be available to offer career guidance for students in Grades 10-12. The University of Victoria will also be on-site with information about their Diploma in Business Administration for Aviation.

The open house starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 18th, rain or shine, and goes until 3:00 pm. Door prizes for both members and the general public include an hour of flight time with one of our flight instructors. Burgers and drinks will be available at our modestly priced BBQ from 11:30 pm to 1:30 pm and washrooms are on site. The Victoria Flying Club’s open house is the perfect way to spend a Saturday, so come and make a day out of it!

GETTING THERE BY CAR

From Victoria

  1. Head north on BC-17 / Patricia Bay Hwy for 22.4km
  2. Take exit 26 toward McTavish Road / Victoria International Airport
  3. At the first roundabout: take the 3rd exit onto McTavish Road
  4. At the second roundabout: taker the 1st exit onto Canora Road
  5. Stay on Canora Road for about 1.2km
  6. Turn left onto Casno Road
  7. Continue on Casno Road until the Victoria Flying Club is on your right (about 250m)

From Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal:

  1. Head south on BC-17 / Patricia Bay Hwy for roughly 7km.
  2. Turn right on Beacon Ave
  3. Take the first left onto Stirling Way
  4. Follow Stirling Way until it becomes Ocean Avenue, then Casno Road (about 1.5km)
  5. The Victoria Flying Club will be on your right at the end of Casno Road
  6. will become Ocean Av
  7. Take Stirling Way and Ocean Ave W to Casno Road

 

GETTING THERE BY BUS

From Downtown Victoria

  1. Take the 70 or 72 from Downtown
  2. Get off the 70 / 72 at the McTavish Exchange (airport connection)
  3. Transfer to the 88 (located at the McTavish Exchange)
  4. Get off the 88 at Ocean at Canora (4 stops)
  5. Walk 400m down Casno Road until you arrive at the Victoria Flying Club

From Sidney, BC

  1. Take the 87 or 88 from James White Blvd at Fifth
  2. Get off the 88 at Ocean at Canora (4 stops)
  3. Walk 400m down Casno Road until you arrive at the Victoria Flying Club

From the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal

  1. Take the 70 or 72 from Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal
  2. Get off the 70 / 72 at the McTavish Exchange (airport connection)
